Obverse description The rampant Brunswick horse leaping to the left occupies the central field, depicted in bold relief above a stylized ground line. The mane and tail are rendered with fine detail characteristic of late 17th-century German die-cutting. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, with the date 1676 appearing in the upper left arc of the legend, separated from the motto by a small rosette ornament.

A continuous Latin legend naming the issuing duke surrounds the denomination in the outer border, with the text separated by pellet stops and punctuated by small floral ornaments.
