Ernest August's elevation to Elector of Hanover in 1692 — the ninth and final electorate created within the Holy Roman Empire — was partly purchased through years of military and financial support to Leopold I during the Turkish Wars. These coins span precisely that window of negotiation, issued as the duchy's status was being actively lobbied in Vienna. The electorate was granted in December of that year, making issues from 1692 the last struck before the title changed entirely.
