| Descrizione del dritto | Crudely struck hammered bronze flan exhibiting the crowned royal arms of Castile and León in the central field, typical of the Joanna and Charles coinage of the Santo Domingo Mint. The quartered shield, though heavily worn and struck on an irregular planchet, displays the characteristic castellated towers and rampant lions of the Spanish crown. A partial Latin legend runs along the periphery, portions of which are lost to flan irregularity and wear. A palm-leaf countermark, applied between 1559 and 1577 to authorize continued circulation in the Canary Islands, is visible on the field. The overall strike is characteristic of colonial emergency coinage, with weak relief and uneven metal flow. |
