Reverse description The reverse presents a crowned monogram in the central field, incorporating the interlaced initials of the joint monarchs Joanna and Charles, characteristic of early Spanish colonial coinage struck at Santo Domingo. The monogram is set within an irregular field on a crudely prepared hammered flan, with a partial circumferential Latin legend partially legible around the periphery. The strike is weak in areas due to the uneven planchet and the rudimentary hammering technique employed. Significant wear and green patination are present across the entire surface, consistent with extended circulation. The coin's irregular outline and variable relief are hallmarks of the emergency coinage produced for the colonial and island territories.
