Obverse description Central field depicts a turreted castle within a linear circle, flanked by the mint marks S (left) and P (right), denoting the Santo Domingo del Puerto mint. The castle is rendered in the traditional Castilian style with three towers. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading KAROLVS QVINTVS INDIARVM REX. The coin is crudely struck by hammer on an irregular flan, typical of early colonial New World coinage.

Reverse description Central field features a rampant lion to the left within a linear circle, with the initial F positioned below, referencing the engraver Francisco Rodríguez. A circular Latin legend surrounds the device, repeating the royal titulary. The lion is depicted in the heraldic tradition of the Kingdom of León, with raised forepaws and open jaws. Strike is characteristic of primitive hammered technique, resulting in a poorly centered and irregularly shaped flan.
