| Obverse description | Central field depicts a turreted castle within a linear circle, flanked by the mint marks S (left) and P (right), denoting the Santo Domingo del Puerto mint. The castle is rendered in the traditional Castilian style with three towers. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading KAROLVS QVINTVS INDIARVM REX. The coin is crudely struck by hammer on an irregular flan, typical of early colonial New World coinage. |
