| Reverse description | Central field features a crowned Gothic capital letter, most likely an 'F' or 'K' monogram surmounted by a royal crown rendered in raised relief, flanked by the assayer or mint mark and a numeral denoting the denomination. The design is enclosed within a beaded or plain inner circle, with the peripheral Latin legend distributed around the edge of the irregularly shaped flan. The strike is characteristically uneven, with portions of the legend weak or missing due to the limitations of the hammered technique employed at the Santo Domingo mint. The reverse composition follows the standard typology of early Spanish colonial copper coinage struck under the joint rule of Charles I and Joanna. |
