Obverse description Uniface klippe struck on a roughly semi-rectangular silver planchet with clipped corners, characteristic of siege coinage produced under emergency conditions. A circular punch impression bearing the coat-of-arms of Melac occupies the central field. The denomination IIII LIVRE 4 S is inscribed above the armorial device, while the city name LANDAV and the date 1702 appear below. The entire design is applied by punch rather than by a conventional die, reflecting the improvised nature of the issue.
