Obverse description Central field occupied by a bold multi-line Arabic legend giving the sultan's name and title, rendered in a large, flowing Thuluth-style script that fills the entire coin face. The inscription is arranged in three horizontal registers across the field. The whole design is enclosed within a toothed (dentilated) border running along the periphery. No figurative imagery is present, in accordance with Islamic artistic convention.
