Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the ram — civic symbol of Schaffhausen — rears up on its hind legs facing left, rendered in relief above a ground line. The animal is depicted with naturalistically modelled fleece and curved horns. Surrounding the central device, a Latin circular legend reads +MONETA·NOVA·SCAFVSENSIS·1657, with the date incorporated into the inscription between pelleted stops.
