| 正面描述 | The crowned arms of Solothurn, displaying a vertically divided shield with characteristic horizontal banding, are depicted centrally within an ornate wreath of laurel or olive sprigs tied at the base, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The municipal coat of arms is rendered in fine relief with a decorative cartouche-style border. The circumferential legend MONETA REIP SOLODORNENSIS arcs around the upper field between the inner circle and the milled rim. The denomination CR.4 appears in the exergue below the shield, separated from the main design by a horizontal line. |

Solothurn occupied an unusual position in the Swiss Confederation — one of the few Catholic cantons to maintain close diplomatic ties with France, hosting the French ambassador continuously from 1530 until the Revolution. That relationship funded civic ambitions well above the city's modest size, including the maintenance of an independent mint that produced small billon issues like this one well into the eighteenth century.
By 1760, billon coinage of this denomination was already fighting a losing battle against coin clipping and debasement from neighboring issues circulating freely across cantonal borders.
