Obverse description Central field features the ornate arms of Bern — a crowned shield displaying a walking bear in profile — set within a decorative cartouche with scrollwork and flanked by a rope-like inner border. The Latin legend MONETA REIPUB · BERNENSIS curves around the upper periphery, identifying the coin as a currency of the Republic of Bern. Reverse description Central field displays an elaborate floriated cross with foliate acanthus-style decoration radiating from a central boss, enclosed within a rope-like inner border. The Latin motto DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT — meaning 'The Lord Will Provide' — curves around the upper periphery, interrupted at the top by a small six-petalled rosette ornament. The date 1818 is divided across the lower field, flanked by small ornamental stops, and the legend is separated from the inner border by a plain rim.
