Obverse description Central field occupied by four lines of bold Arabic calligraphic inscription giving the full honorific titulature of the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. The legend reads: 'Sultan of the Two Lands and Khan of the Two Seas, Sultan Mahmud Khan, may his victory be glorified.' The inscriptions are rendered in an angular, deeply struck Thuluth-style script and divided by ruled horizontal lines.
