Reverse description Central field bears a large Gothic monogram or combined cipher of interlinked letters forming a decorative cross-like device, typical of late 15th-century north German civic coinage, set within a beaded inner circle. Below the monogram, a small heraldic ornament or key symbol — the traditional emblem of the city of Bremen — is visible. The surrounding Gothic Latin legend, rendered in mixed upper and lower case letterforms characteristic of the period, gives the denomination and mint attribution along with the date 1499. The flat field and beaded border reflect the hammered technique standard for the Bremen mint at this period.
