Reverse description A large, naturalistically rendered butterfly displayed with spread wings in the plain central field, filling the flan almost entirely. The wings are depicted with detailed scalloped margins and rows of rounded spots or ocelli across both fore- and hindwings; the body is segmented and prominently raised in relief, with antennae extending upward from the head. No legend or inscription appears on either the field or the border; the design is enclosed within a plain raised rim. This distinctive reverse type gives the coin its popular name, 'Schmetterlingstaler' (butterfly thaler).
