George II ruled Calenberg-Hannover as Elector while simultaneously sitting on the British throne, and the financial administration of his German territories operated largely independently of Westminster. These multiple-ducat pieces in high-fineness gold were struck at Hannover during the years immediately preceding the Seven Years' War, a period when the Electorate's treasury was under pressure to maintain liquidity for the military commitments that war would soon demand in full.
Welter 2515 is a short-lived type — the four-year window reflects the reign's final stretch before George II died in October 1760.
