Obverse description Irregular square klippe flan bearing a centrally placed square punch containing a four-line Latin inscription in the field. The uppermost line bears the two-digit date '84' (for 1584), flanked by pellets; the central lines read 'D·O·M· / BRVXEL·LA / CONFIR / MATA'; and the denomination '4 G' appears at the base of the punch. The lettering is boldly struck in relief within the recessed square die impression, with pellet stops separating the abbreviated words. The overall fabric is crudely executed, consistent with the exigency of siege coinage produced during the Spanish investment of Brussels in 1584–1585.
