Obverse description Laureate and bearded right-facing effigy of Emperor Francis Joseph I, engraved in high relief with fine detail to the hair and whiskers. The portrait, attributed to Josef Tautenhayn, is set within a plain field bounded by a toothed border. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy reading FRANCISCVS IOSEPHVS I D.G. IMPERATOR ET REX, with a small star at the base of the design.

Reverse description The crowned Imperial Austrian double-headed eagle displayed at centre, bearing on its breast an ornate quartered shield with the arms of Austria. The eagle's talons clutch a sword and an orb, and the whole device is surrounded by an elaborate foliate mantling. The denomination 4 Fl. and 10 Fr. appears in the lower field to either side of the mantling, with the date below, all within a toothed border. The circular legend IMPERIVM AVSTRIACVM runs along the upper periphery.
