Obverse lettering PHILIPPVS V DEI GRA S M IIII
Reverse description Bold cross pattée set within an ornate quatrefoil composed of four interlocking arcs, a design known as the 'Jerusalem cross' type used on Spanish gold escudo coinage. Small heraldic devices appear in the angles between the arms of the cross. The surrounding circular legend HISPANIARUM REX contains the date 1715 at the top and the denomination indicators '4' flanking the mint mark 'S' at left and right, all within a milled border.
