| Obverse description | Central quartered royal shield of Spain surmounted by an ornate crown, displaying the quartered arms of Castile (castle), León (lion), Aragón (vertical pales), and Granada (pomegranate) with the central escutcheon of the French Bourbon fleur-de-lis, characteristic of Felipe V's dynastic claims. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery. The flan is irregular in shape and shows typical characteristics of hammered coinage, with the design struck slightly off-center on the planchet. |
