Obverse description Central field bears the crowned shield of Aragon displaying four vertical pales, surmounted by an open royal crown rendered in relief. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The partial Latin legend + PHILIPVS III ARAGONVM runs along the outer periphery, interrupted by the irregular flan edges typical of hammered coinage. The overall design is struck on a characteristically irregular gold planchet with flat relief consistent with early seventeenth-century Majorcan workshop production.
