| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of Castile and León, with Granada in base and Portugal in the center, all surmounted by a crowned shield in the typical escutcheon form of the Habsburg Spanish coinage. The mint mark 'B' (Burgos) appears to the left of the shield, with the assayer's letter and date partially visible in the surrounding field. The legend, struck in Latin, runs around the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, partially visible due to the characteristic off-center strike of hammered coinage. The overall style is consistent with late sixteenth-century Spanish cob (macuquina) gold coinage, with bold, deeply struck heraldic devices. |
