Obverse description Central crowned quartered coat of arms of Spain, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in the first and fourth quarters, with the pale of Aragon in the second quarter and Granada in base, notably absent the Portuguese arms. The shield is surmounted by a large royal crown and flanked by elaborate foliate mantling. The denomination numeral '4' appears to the upper right of the crown, with the mint mark 'S' (Segovia) and assayer initials 'BR' distributed around the field. The royal monogram and mint indicators are rendered in the characteristic style of the Segovia roller mill.
