Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Charles IV (Carlos IV) facing right, depicted with powdered wig tied at the nape, wearing a cuirass decorated with horizontal ridges and a jeweled clasp at the throat. The effigy is rendered in the neoclassical portrait style characteristic of the Madrid mint under engraver González de Sepúlveda. The circular Latin legend reads CAROL • IIII • D • G • HISP • ET IND • R •, abbreviating his royal titles as King of Hispania and the Indies, with the date 1791 positioned in the lower exergue flanked by pellets.
