The emperor is portrayed in a classical Roman style, wearing a lace-trimmed mantle fastened at the shoulder. The circular Latin legend reads IOSEPH II D G R I S A GERM HV BO REX, abbreviating his full imperial and royal titles. The mint mark A appears in the lower exergue below the bust truncation.
