| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Elector Johann Georg I depicted on horseback in full armour, advancing to the right with sword raised over his right shoulder, symbolising imperial vicarial authority. Beneath the horse, an oval shield bearing the two-fold arms of electoral and ducal Saxony. The encircling Latin legend reads PRO LEGE ET GREGE, with the date 1619 incorporated at the close of the inscription. The composition is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Saxon hammered gold coinage, with bold relief lettering and a dynamic equestrian effigy filling the coin's field. |
