Obverse description Armored bust of Duke Johann Christian facing right, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a lace ruff collar and a draped mantle, his beard and curled hair rendered in fine detail. To the left of the effigy appears a crowned heraldic shield, and to the right a second heraldic shield, both flanking the figure within the coin's field. The circular Latin legend surrounds the bust along the inner border of a beaded rim, reading D G IOHA CHRI ET GEORG RVD FRA.
