Obverse description Crowned coat of arms of Sweden, quartered with the three crowns of Sweden and the lion of the Vasa dynasty, displayed centrally in the field within a plain inner circle. The royal arms are surmounted by a royal crown. The circumferential Latin legend reads GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS D G SVEC GOTH VAN REX M D F G, identifying Gustav II Adolf as King of Sweden, Goths, and Vandals by the grace of God. The engraving is characteristic of the hammered gold coinage produced during the Swedish occupation of Elbing.
