正面描述 Laureate, armoured and draped bust of Emperor Ferdinand II facing right, the effigy adorned with a prominent ruff collar and the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece suspended at the chest. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the manner of early seventeenth-century Habsburg coinage. The encircling legend reads in Latin abbreviated form around the periphery of the field.

附加信息

Ferdinand II struck 4-ducat multiples throughout his reign, but 1621 carries specific weight: it was the year following the Battle of White Mountain, when Habsburg forces crushed the Bohemian revolt and Ferdinand began consolidating authority over what had been, briefly, a genuinely contested empire. The Austrian mints were busy — war finance ran in both directions, and gold multiples of this kind circulated among the court and military creditors rather than in any ordinary commerce.

The Herinek range cited here, 1592–1657, reflects the broad attribution window typical of undifferentiated dies across Ferdinand's long reign rather than a single confirmed 1621 emission.
