| Obverse description | Centrally positioned crowned arms of the City of Bern: a diagonally divided shield bearing the walking bear of Bern, set against a dotted field, surmounted by a large ornate crown with floral finial. The shield is flanked on either side by a laurel branch, the whole forming a heraldic composition of refined late-18th-century style. The circular legend RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS runs along the upper periphery between the crown and the beaded border. |
