Obverse description Central oval shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal band with a walking bear — surmounted by an elaborate crown with a lion mask at its centre. The shield is supported on the left by a rampant bear and on the right by a rampant lion, both standing on a foliate cartouche base. The mintmaster's initials DB appear below the shield at either side of the cartouche. The circular legend reads MONETA REIPVBLICÆ BERNENSIS DB, distributed around the periphery within a milled border.

Reverse description Two standing allegorical figures facing one another, clasping hands across a flaming altar, symbolising the covenant between the city and divine providence. Above the scene, a radiant sun emanates rays over a laurel wreath encircling the upper field. The reverse legend BENEDIC TVS · SIT IEHOVA DEUS is distributed around the periphery in Latin, invoking a biblical blessing, all within a milled border consistent with the obverse.
