Obverse description Central crowned oval shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal-striped field with a walking bear — flanked by two heraldic supporters: a bear passant to the left and a lion rampant to the right, both facing inward. The composition rests upon an ornate cartouche with foliate and scrollwork decoration. The circular legend reads MONETA REIPVBLICÆ BERNENSIS with the mint-master initials DB, rendered in a bold Roman lettering style typical of early 18th-century Swiss civic coinage.
