Obverse description Two rampant lions face one another as supporters flanking a central crowned shield bearing the arms of Zürich. Between them, an elaborate foliate branch rises from the crown of the shield, extending upward to fill the upper field. The date 1640 appears in two parts at the lower field, divided by the base of the shield. A beaded inner circle separates the central design from the outer legend, which reads MONETA NOVA REIPVBLICAE THVRICENSIS, rendered in bold Roman capitals within a rope-twist border.
