Reverse description The reverse displays two semi-oval heraldic shields placed side by side in the center of the field, the dexter shield surmounted by a Cardinal's galero with pendant tassels and charged with an eagle above wavy lines (the arms of Bologna), while the sinister shield is topped by a male bust and bears a quartered coat of arms. The two shields are joined at center by crossed processional staffs. Above the shields, the legend BONON·DOCET· arcs along the upper periphery, proclaiming Bologna's role as a seat of learning. The date ·1787· appears in the lower exergue flanked by six-pointed stars, set between the shields and the reeded rim.
