Brock died at Queenston Heights on 13 October 1812, shot during the very assault he had led to retake the heights from American forces — a victory secured posthumously by his subordinates. The Royal Canadian Mint issued this piece as part of its War of 1812 bicentennial series, which ran across multiple years and featured a rotating cast of figures from both the British-Canadian and Indigenous allied sides of the conflict.
The .9999 fineness is notably purer than standard sterling, a specification the RCM adopted for its collector silver issues in this period to differentiate them from bullion product lines.
