| Obverse description | The obverse bears the fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by sculptor Susan Taylor, depicting a right-facing portrait of the Queen at approximately 77 years of age, bareheaded and adorned with a necklace and earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA arcs along the upper rim, denoting her title by the grace of God. The effigy is rendered in a refined relief against a polished field, consistent with the proof-quality standard of the series. |

| Reverse description | The reverse, engraved by Christie Paquet, presents a detailed skeletal reconstruction of a Parasaurolophus, a crested hadrosaurid dinosaur, rendered in high relief with a selective antiqued finish that imparts the appearance of an aged fossil specimen. The dinosaur is depicted in a lateral profile, occupying the central field, with fine engraved linework evoking fossilized bone structure. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery and the denomination 4 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim, framing the prehistoric subject. This coin represents the first issue in the Royal Canadian Mint's prehistoric creatures series. |
