Edward VIII's abdication in December 1936 meant no British currency bearing his effigy ever entered circulation — the Royal Mint had prepared dies but destroyed production before release. Pobjoy has issued several Edward VIII commemoratives over the decades, effectively filling a numismatic gap the abdication created. This 2006 piece pairs his image with Elizabeth II's effigy as issuing authority, a juxtaposition that would have been constitutionally impossible in any real monetary system.
