Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of Barbados centrally positioned in the field, comprising a shield bearing a bearded fig tree and two Pride of Barbados flowers, supported on the dexter side by a dolphin (depicted as a sea creature) and on the sinister side by a pelican. Above the shield rises a helmet with mantling and a crest depicting an arm holding two crossed pieces of sugarcane. Below the shield, a scroll bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The legend INAUGURATION OF THE CARIBBEAN DEVELOPMENT BANK arcs around the upper periphery, with BARBADOS and the date 1970 inscribed in the lower field beneath the arms.
