| Beschrijving keerzijde | Round cast copper coin with a central square perforation. Four legends in two scripts are arranged around the square hole in cruciform layout: the Chinese character 當 (dang, 'worth') appears at the top, the Chinese numeral 四 (si, 'four') at the bottom, while Manchu script reading 'Boo-i' (representing the Ili mint, transcription of 伊犁) flanks the left and right sides respectively. The bold, raised characters are typical of the Ili (Huiyuan) mint's casting style during the Xianfeng period, with a plain field and raised inner and outer rims. The mixed Chinese and Manchu bilingual inscription is characteristic of coins struck at Xinjiang mints under the Qing Dynasty. |
