Bundi was a small princely state in Rajputana, and its wartime cash coupons were emergency fiscal instruments — issued because the disruption to metal supplies during the Second World War made small-denomination coinage difficult to maintain in circulation. The Government of India's wartime metal requisitions left dozens of princely states scrambling for fractional currency substitutes, and locally produced paper coupons filled the gap.
Pick S224 is among the more obscure entries in the Indian princely states series. Bundi's issues from this period are rarely encountered, partly because distribution was localized and redemption rates after 1947 — when the state acceded to the Indian Union — were uneven at best.
