4.2 Mark Gold Gebrüder Spohn

Gebrüder Spohn was a bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer in Neckarsulm — the same town that would later anchor NSU Motorenwerke. During the hyperinflation of 1923, hundreds of German firms issued their own emergency currency (Notgeld) when the Reichsmark became operationally useless, and Spohn was among them. The "Gold" denomination was a common device late in the crisis: pegging notional value to gold rather than paper marks gave workers and suppliers at least a theoretical anchor against daily devaluation.

Karl W. Schilling of Heilbronn handled the printing, a regional jobber responsible for numerous local Notgeld issues that year. Richard Spohn signed as the company's authorized representative.
