Obverse description Square klippe flan struck in hammered silver. At the top of the field, two horizontal cartouches bear the Latin motto EXTREMVM above SVBSIDIVM ('last resort'), referencing the coin's emergency issue during the siege. The crowned municipal arms of Kampen — depicting a fortified tower gateway with three turrets — occupy the central field, flanked to the left by the numeral 38 and to the right by the denomination mark ST (Stuivers). Below the shield, the city name CAMPEN appears above the date 1578, all inscribed in bold Roman lettering characteristic of late sixteenth-century Dutch emergency coinage.
