| Obverse description | The upper field features the Polish state eagle — the crowned white eagle with wings displayed, rendered in fine relief — positioned centrally below the arc of the legend. The circular legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA and the date 2009 run along the upper periphery. In the central and lower field, the large numeral 37 dominates, flanked by the inscription ŻYŁ to the left and LAT to the right, referencing the 37 years of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko's life. The denomination ZŁ appears at the base of the numeral. The lower register of the field is decorated with a stylised wave motif, evoking the Vistula River, where Father Popiełuszko's body was found. The mint mark MW appears beneath the eagle. |
