The 37½ centavo denomination is immediately unusual — fractional values of this kind were a practical response to the chronic shortage of small coin in the Río de la Plata region during the 1860s and 1870s, where Spanish colonial reales-based accounting had left an awkward arithmetic legacy that decimal reform hadn't yet resolved cleanly. The Banco del Litoral, operating out of Corrientes province, was one of several provincial institutions issuing their own paper during this period, well before Argentina's 1890 financial collapse forced currency consolidation under the Banco de la Nación.
The "Fuertes de Ley Nacional" qualifier was a deliberate signal — distinguishing this emission from the debased moneda corriente still circulating in parts of the interior.
