| Obverse description | Struck on a roughly square klippe flan of irregular form, the obverse displays a plain cross above an abbreviated Latin devotional legend, all contained within a dotted inner circle. The Zeeland provincial arms appear to the left of the central device, while the civic arms of Middelburg are positioned to the right. The date 1572 is integrated into the legend in separated numeral format. The overall die workmanship is crude and utilitarian, consistent with the exigencies of siege coinage produced under blockade conditions. |
