Obverse description Bearded bust of Ferdinand I, half-length, facing right, crowned and clad in elaborately ornamented armour, holding an imperial sceptre in the right hand with the left hand resting upon a sword at the belt. The effigy is contained within two concentric circles, the outermost formed by a beaded border. The surrounding legend, commencing at 12 o'clock, reads as an abbreviated form of FERDINANDVS DEI GRATIA ROMANORVM HVNGARIAE BOHEMIAE DALMATIAE CROATIAE REX.

Reverse description Displayed imperial eagle with nimbus (halo), head turned to the left, bearing a Tyrolean escutcheon on its breast, all within two concentric circles with the outermost beaded. An imperial orb bearing the denomination value is placed at the base, interrupting both circles and the legend. The legend, commencing at approximately 7 o'clock, reads as an abbreviated form of INFANS HISPANIAE ARCHIDVX AUSTRIAE DVX BVRGVNDIAE, with the date 1556 incorporated into the reverse field.
