The JFK centennial prompted a wave of commemorative issues across multiple jurisdictions in 2017, but few were as nakedly maximalist as this one. The British Virgin Islands has no organic connection to Kennedy — its use here is purely a function of its status as a compliant issuing authority for the bullion commemorative market, where the denomination is nominal and the coin is a product first.
At 100 troy ounces, the blank alone required casting and rolling processes distinct from standard planchet production. The 130mm diameter pushed against the mechanical limits of most hydraulic presses used for oversized commemorative strikes.
