| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned shield bearing the quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) and the bordure of castles — superimposed upon a terrestrial globe, the whole supported by an armillary sphere resting on a cross of the Order of Christ. The globe and armillary sphere together serve as a symbol of Portuguese sovereignty over its overseas dominions. Two ornate foliate branches flank the central device in the field. The circular Latin legend SUBQ· SIGN. NATA STAB. encircles the design, a reference to stability under the sign of the cross. The rim is defined by a fine toothed border. |
