Obverse description The obverse bears the denomination '320' prominently displayed in the center of the field, with the date below. The mint mark appears to the left of the denomination, identifying the issuing mint: M for Vila Rica (KM# 324.1), R for Rio de Janeiro (KM# 324.2), or B for Bahia (KM# 324.3). The circular Latin legend JOANNES. VI. D. G. PORT. BRAS. ET. ALG. REX. runs along the periphery, proclaiming João VI as King of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves. The design is executed in the neoclassical milled style characteristic of early 19th-century Brazilian royal coinage.
