| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the Hamburg city arms — a white castle with three towers on a red field — displayed within elaborate Baroque cartouche-style scrollwork mantling. Above the shield rises a civic crown surmounted by a fan of eleven military trophies including flags, lances, and standards radiating upward. The mintmaster initials H.S.K. appear below the shield in the lower field, flanked by rosette stops. The circular legend around the periphery reads * 17. EINE * MARK * FEIN * H.S.K, separated by decorative rosette ornaments, referencing the fine silver standard of 17 marks to the Cologne Mark. |
